Saline Sonohysterogram

The saline sonohysterogram is an ultrasound test to evaluate the shape of the endometrial cavity and check if the fallopian tubes are open. It can also detect potential issues such as submucosal fibroids, adhesions or endometrial polyps.

This procedure involves putting fluid into the uterus via a catheter through the cervix. The ultrasound probe is then placed in the vagina to observe the fluid in the uterus. 3D ultrasound scanning can also be involved to provide a more accurate picture.

There is an additional procedure known as a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) that can provide similar information.
