Surrogacy / Gestational Carrier

Home » Surrogacy / Gestational Carrier

Conception can be accomplished through surrogacy, in which an alternate individual carries the embryo for the intended parents. There are two types of surrogacy: traditional surrogacy and gestational surrogacy (with a gestational carrier).

In the case of traditional surrogacy, the surrogate’s egg is utilized for conception, and is artificially inseminated by the intended father’s sperm. Given the use of the surrogate’s egg during conception, there will be a genetic link between the child and the surrogate mother.

In the case of a gestational surrogacy, the gestational carrier will be implanted by an embryo achieved via in-vitro fertilization. This embryo results from the union of the intended parents’ egg and sperm.

Prior to pursuing surrogacy or acquiring a gestational carrier, it would be beneficial for all parties concerned to receive comprehensive psychological and legal counselling.
